What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a form of healthcare that has been around for over 100 years; but is still not well understood by many people. If you’ve never heard of osteopathy before, you’re not alone – but once you learn about its many benefits, you’ll be eager to give it a try.

So, what is osteopathy?

Osteopathy has been around for a long time. Andrew Taylor Still, our founding father, brought it to life when applying techniques on soldiers in America in the 19th century. Since then, osteopathy has gained increased popularity.

My vision is based on the traditional osteopathic principles: relationship of structure and function, importance of arteries, viewing the body as a whole and boosting the body’s own defence & healing mechanisms.

For me, osteopathy is evaluating the relationship between an individual, its stressors and its environment in order to reach an equilibrium. I also find it important to be empathic and listen to the person in front of me so we can achieve her/his goals.

Osteopathy can be used as a preventive health tool or as a tool to fight acute/chronic conditions. It can be used on its own or it can perfectly fit into a multimodal approach in combination with physios, acupuncturists etc. Osteopathy can treat a variety of complaints such as headaches, neck pain, low back pain, posture, breathing problems, sport injuries, pregnancy-related complaints, etc.

Who I Am – Loïc Platteau, Osteopath by Vocation

I have always been passionate about the human body and its function. Since I was a child, I have been connected to osteopathy. So for me, it was a logical step to become one, as there was nothing else I wanted to do more than helping people.

Honours degree

In 2020, I graduated with a first-class honours degree and the prize of ‘rising star’ distributed by the Institute of Osteopathy in the UK.

Mission

I’ve been on a mission to thoroughly accompany each of my patients on their individual quest towards health.
